I get asked all the time what I do for 'work', when I reply with "I am a Virtual Assistant", I generally get a look that says "a what?".
Many people have never heard of a virtual assistant, despite it being quite a large industry here in Australia and around the world.
A Virtual Assistant, to put it simply, is a person who provides various services to businesses from a remote location. From digital marketing tasks, scheduling appointments and managing events to personal errands. You can hire a virtual assistant for almost anything!
There are a host of different tasks a virtual assistant, here are some of the services I offer:
Social media marketing
Website design and creation
Logo and business stationery design
Digital and print media design
Managing calendars, appointments and emails
General accounts and payroll
Newsletters and Blogs
PDF creation and alterations
I could go on for hours about all the tasks that I and many other virtual assistant can do for you, think of us as what Robin is to Batman. While not in your business physically - still a vital part of your business.
Why would your business need a VA you ask?
I am not kidding when I say virtual assistants are everywhere, and I myself did not know this until I started my business and found this incredible community of amazing and highly skilled people. And with the cost of running a business rising more and more business owners are turning to VA's to help them grow in an affordable way. This is why you should consider hiring a VA:
Reduce operational costs. Virtual assistants help reduce overhead costs. For project-based jobs, for example, hiring a remote worker makes more sense because you’re only paying for the output. Also, you don’t need to spend on office essentials, equipment, and utilities.
Increase efficiency. Hiring virtual assistants help businesses focus on core functions. Less essential tasks outsourced remotely allows you to focus more on critical tasks. For example, you can hire a virtual assistant who will work on scheduling meetings or encoding data. Most of these non-essential functions won’t require much supervision, thus, your in-house team will have more time on their hands.
Help scale-up your business. As you grow your business, the demand for work will also increase. Instead of hiring in-house employees, you can quickly find virtual assistants to help in the scale-up process.
Round the clock customer support. Businesses that operate globally require round the clock customer support. Fortunately, you can hire remote workers in different time zones to cater to the needs of your customers in various areas.
More time for strategic planning. Since virtual assistants handle non-essential tasks, you have more time to focus on strategic planning. Planning strategically is vital to identify growth opportunities and set goals that will guide the company.
There are so many benefits to hiring a virtual assistant in your business, but make sure you do your research before you hire one as they are not all the same. All virtual assistants offer different services and have different skills, while some offer accounting and bookkeeping others offer human resources or marketing services. Figure out what you need help with and take it from there.
Ultimately, using a virtual assistant helps you to free up your time for more important (money-making) tasks and gives you the flexibility that most business owners crave. So put yourself and your business first, and take the first step to outsourcing - working out the tasks that you could delegate to a virtual assistant.
